The first step of \(K_u\) given orientation, by two applications of the diagonal law

Given orientation, the first step of \(K_u\) follows by hand from the diagonal law on every cell.

Given orientation at the holes of two causal diamonds, the first step of \(K_u\) at a vertex of a neighbouring column at transverse distance \(d \geq 2\) from a uniform chain is the sum of two identities of Theorem 9: the vertex cannot carry the moment opposite to the chain’s (Theorem 3) and cannot carry the moment of the third axis (the corner corollary, the diamond’s extreme corner being the single hole beside the vertex). So, given Theorem U, the first step of \(K_u\) holds by hand on every cell.
